Romans History Workshop

Inspire your KS2 children with an exciting Roman day experience

Romans workshop for Key Stage 2. Exciting, interactive learning. A fun way to bring Roman history to life in your school.

Roman History Day (KS2)

Roman people.

 This workshop is aimed at key stage 2 children and will enhance their understanding of Roman culture, who the Romans were and how they lived. The visit can be tailored to your requirements. You can choose to have the focus on Julius Caesar, The Claudian Invasion and Conquest, the power of the Roman Army, Romanization of Britain and Hadrian's Wall.  Alternatively you can have a more general look at the Romans, Roman civilization, famous Romans, The Roman Army etc


Choose from a range of themes, such as:

  • Clothing
  • Homes
  • Education
  • Religion
  • Language
  • Law
  • Society
  • Economy
  • Slavery
  • The Army
  • Government


Roman Ship.

The day can be tailored to meet your requirements. If there is a particular aspect of Roman civilization you would like to focus on we have the flexibility to do this.  


The children will have the opportunity to see a wide range of Roman artefacts and clothing, plus military weapons and equipment.


We explain the importance of roads and towns, transportation and trade within the Empire.

The children can take part in practical activities relating to life in Roman times.


They will gain an understanding of life in Roman times, bringing history to life in a fun, memorable way by examining Roman artifacts such as clothing, pottery, coins, writing implements, tools and other everyday objects.  


Learn how Rome began, Romulus and Remus, Roman Britain, Boudica and much more.

Example Timetable

Here is an example of how the day might run. This includes an age appropriate, fact packed and engaging talk for teachers who want their children to enjoy lots of interesting information and scope to ask questions:

8.00 am. Arrive, Sign in, Unload and set up. 

09.15 am.  Slide Show and talk covering a theme of your choosing (see above).

10.15 am Morning break.

10.30 am - 11.15 am. Guess the object. Learn interesting facts about the Romans by exploring a range of artifacts.

11.15 am - 12.00 Noon. Roman Army weapons and equipment.

12.00 - 1.15 pm Lunch.

1.15 - 2.30 pm Activities. Working in groups, choose from a selection of practical activities for hands on learning. 

2.30 pm. Tidy up, Final Q&A.

2.45 pm. End.

Alternative Timetable

Some groups respond better to hands on learning. In which case the following timetable works well:

8.00 am. Arrive, Sign in, Unload and set up.

09.15 - 10.30 Group 1 Artifacts with Ron. Group 2 Teacher lead activities.

10.30 - 10.45 am. Morning break.

10.45 - 12.00 Noon. Group 2 Artifacts. Group 1 Teacher lead activities.

12.00 - 1.15 Lunch.

1.15 - 1.45 pm. Group 1 Roman Army weapons and equipment. Group 2 Teacher lead activities.

1.45 - 2.30 pm. Group 2 Roman Army weapons and equipment. Group 1 Teacher lead activities.

2.30 pm. Fun quiz based on the day's learning.

2.45 pm. End.

The above is ideal for Year 3 age group.
