Roman Day helps KS2 children understand who the Romans were, how they lived and why the Roman Empire had such a lasting influence on Britain.
The content can focus on Julius Caesar, the Claudian invasion and conquest, the Roman Army, Romanisation and Hadrian’s Wall—or provide a broader exploration of Roman civilisation and everyday life.
Children see clothing, armour, weapons and a varied collection of replica artefacts. Discussion, demonstration and practical activities help them connect physical objects with the people and ideas they encounter in their history topic.
Suitable for: Primarily Years 3–6. Content, vocabulary and activities can be adjusted to suit the age and prior knowledge of your classes.

What teachers need to know
Which year groups is Roman Day suitable for?
The workshop is principally designed for Key Stage 2 and works especially well with Years 3–6. Content is adjusted to the age and existing knowledge of the group.
How many children can take part?
One or two classes is comfortable. A larger group may be possible depending on the available space, staffing and format required.
Do you need the school hall?
The hall is ideal for the presentation and practical activities, but other large spaces can work. Tell us what is available and we will advise.
What does the school need to provide?
We normally require a computer, projector and screen for part of the day, together with tables for activities and school staff or helpers to supervise groups. Complete requirements are supplied before the visit.
Can the workshop reflect our current topic?
Yes. The balance can be adjusted—for example, towards invasion and conquest, the Roman Army, everyday life, Roman towns or Hadrian’s Wall.
